The State’s agriculture sector has seen a rise in growth over the past three years, compared to the national average.
This growth rate was 8.6 percent compared to the 4.05 % national average during the 2019-20 fiscal year. It has now reached 8.80%, which is higher than the 6.56 % national average during the 2020-21 financial year.
After State bifurcation in 2014, food grains set a new record for highest production at 175.12 million tonnes. The area under food grains cultivation increased by 43.08 lakh hectares to 41.45 lakh in 2020-21, increasing 3.9 percent.
Officials cite many reasons for the rise in growth rate, even during the coronavirus epidemic. According to officials, the growth rate has been sustained by the YSR Rythu Bharosa-PM Kisan scheme and Rythu Bharosa Kendras.
DBT scheme
M.V.S., Vice-Chairman of Andhra Pradesh Agricultural Mission. Nagi Reddy believes that the programs and schemes are delivering the expected results. The growth rate of the farm sector is the same. In total, Rs35.333.68 crore was spent in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 fiscal years to purchase nearly 178 million metric tonnes of farm produce. He says that Rs51,366.98 million has been paid to farmers and other agricultural stakeholders in the past 24 months.
M. Chandrasekhar Reddy, Mission Executive Member, stated that approximately 18.70 lakh farmers were given free power for nine hours. “The government spent Rs19.130 crore in 2019-20 fiscal, including clearing the outstanding dues of Rs8,750 Crore accumulated under the TDP rule. This allowed farmers to create 40-60 labour days. He also said that the GVA of agriculture (a measure of goods and services in an area or sector in a given area) was 37.27%, lower than the 19.7% national average.
Supply of seeds
According to Mr Nagi, 6.99 lakh quintals on subsidised seed rates were distributed to 13.96 million farmers last year for Kharif and 2.20 lakh quintals to 3.04 lakh farmers through the RBKs. 8.24 lakh quintals are being distributed at subsidised prices this fiscal. He adds that 13.69 lakh farmers received an input subsidy of Rs1055.26 million for the first time in the crop year.
